Arsenal’s kits will be made by Puma for the
next five years in a deal with a staggering
£30 million a year to the Gunners.
The agreement brings an end to the North
London side’s 20-year association with
Nike, dwarfing the £55m over seven years
the old deal brought to the Emirates
Stadium.
Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester
United have a 15-year deal with Nike which
totals £287 million but the Puma deal tops
both that and Liverpool’s £25m a year from
Warrior.
German firm Adidas were reported to be
seeking Arsenal’s signature, as part of a
gradual sponsorship conquering of London
with Chelsea on board and Fulham –
currently in a deal with Kappa – also
linked.
The deal is a huge coup for the club’s chief
executive Ivan Gazidis and could play a
part in helping Arsenal get back into a
competitive position for major signings as
they seek to end an eight-year trophy
drought in 2013/14, the first year of the
Puma deal.
