Artist of the Week: Drake
The Toronto MC says that he just wants new album 'Nothing Was the Same' to have the 'same lasting power' as its predecessor, 2011's 'Take Care'.
It is undeniable that his last release, 2011's "Take Care", is currently Drake's best album. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 after selling 600,000 copies in its first week. In a new interview with MTV, the 26-year-old entertainer revealed that he didn't care if "Nothing Was the Same" wouldn't sell as much as its predecessor.
"Best advice I ever got is no expectations lead to no disappointments. So I have no expectations," he told the site when asked what he expected from his third studio effort. "The numbers, the sales, all that stuff it's cool. I'm sure I'll get into it on the day like, 'How much did we sell,' trying to figure it out, but aside from that, I'm just excited for people to hear the full body of work."
He continued that the he only hoped "Nothing Was the Same" would have the same musical power as "Take Care". He said, "The whole purpose of the album is for it to last. I think with 'Take Care' I still hear records from 'Take Care' now. I just want this album to have that same lasting power."
"Nothing Was the Same" has spawned two singles, "Started From the Bottom" and "Hold On, We're Going Home". Drake recently dropped apromotional track called "Wu-Tang Forever", a tribute to New York-based hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan.
