million species of migratory wildlife --
from lions and zebras to hippos and
wildebeest -- of the Serengeti ecosystem.
Thought to have formed about 2.5
million years ago, the volcanic caldera is
massive, measuring between 10 and 12
miles across with an area of 102 square
miles. From floor to rim, the crater rises
to an elevation of 7,500 feet.
