3 Doors Down bassist Robert Todd Harrell, 41, remained behind bars as of Monday afternoon (April 22) in connection with his arrest on Friday for vehicular homicide after a fatal crash in Nashville.
A spokesperson for the Davidson County Sheriff's office confirmed that the founding member of the "Kryptonite" band had not yet posted the $100,000 bond in the case.
Harrell landed in jail after an incident
on Friday night when his Cadillac CTS was traveling at a high rate of speed on the interstate and clipped the bumper of a pickup truck, sending it swerving out of control and down an embankment, where it flipped over. The driver, 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders Jr., was killed after being ejected from his truck.
Police said Harrell showed signs of impairment at the scene and admitted to drinking some hard cider earlier and taking the prescription painkiller Lortab and anxiety drug Xanax. He was transported to Nashville's Metro Jail and was later also accused of bringing controlled substances into the jail when deputies found a plastic baggie hidden in his sock with eight additional Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and four Oxymorphone pills.
The group issued a statement expressing their condolences. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time." On Monday, they released a second statement announcing that, "Out of respect to Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr., and his family, 3 Doors Down has cancelled the band's four scheduled U.S. April/May appearances." According to their official site, the band had two dates scheduled in late April and early May. Current plans call for them to resume touring on May 31 in Moscow before returning to the U.S. for scheduled dates in July co-headlining alongside Daughtry. It was unknown at press time if Harrell would be joining them for the upcoming shows.
A spokesperson for the Criminal Court of Davidson County said that Harrell is due in court for his first appearance on Thursday, at which point his case could be set for trial or continued in order to interview additional witnesses. At press time the court representative said it was unclear if Harrell had retained a lawyer.
