De Gea, 21, is seen as the logical replacement for Iker Cassilas but says he is happy at United and has no plans to return to Spain.
The Spaniard seems to have finally settled in England following his move from Atletico Madrid and despite some mixed form in his time in the Premier League, he feels that England is the best place to continue his education.
"I am happy at United and not thinking about a return to Spain," said De Gea."I've accepted the challenge to learn and improve as a professional ."
De Gea has been challenged this season by United team-mate Anders Lindergaard for the United No.1 mantle, but De Gea says he will not back down and is determined to solidify his position.
"And fighting for my place gives me a bigger incentive to play well."
