As the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People held its annual awards show, "Scandal" snatched a coveted award in the TV field. The ABC hit series was named Outstanding Drama Series, beating other contenders which included "Boardwalk Empire", "Grey's Anatomy", "Treme" and "True Blood".
The Shonda Rhimes-created show also led Kerry Washington to win Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series prize. The Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, meanwhile, went to LL Cool J of "NCIS: Los Angeles".
In comedy series field, "The Game" was chosen as the outstanding one. Don Cheadle of "House of Lies" and Cassi Davis of "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" were tied for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series award.
The Tyler Perry-created show bagged two other trophies through Cassi Davis' win as Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and Lance Gross' Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series title.
Also taking home multiple prizes was "The Young and the Restless". The soap opera had its stars Kristoff St. John and Tatyana Ali being chosen as Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Daytime Drama Series respectively.
As for "Steel Magnolias" which earned the most nominations with seven, the TV movie managed to claim two prizes. The Lifetime show was named Outstanding Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special, while its star Alfre Woodard was honored with Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special.
